Dear resident, A 59-year-old woman has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after breaching her community behaviour order (CBO). Tina Smith, 59 (DOB: 12/09/1966), of no fixed address, was issued a two-year CBO at Staines Magistrates Court in April this year following a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour across Spelthorne, including setting fires to bins and damaging cars and shop windows. The order restricted her from entering Staines town centre between the hours of 9am and 3pm apart from for legal reasons, ordered her not to be in possession of any item that could be used to ignite anything and not to behave in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause, unreasonable disturbance. On Saturday, 15 November, Smith attended a pub in Ashford and made threats to set fire to the building. Thanks to a member of the public who promptly called 999, Smith was found nearby in possession of three lighters. She was subsequently arrested for breach of a criminal behaviour order, threats to destroy or damage property and two public order offences. On Monday, 17 November, at Staines Magistrates Court, she was sentenced to 12 months in prison and ordered to pay £272 in fines, a £187 victim surcharge and costs of £85. Inspector Matt Walton, Spelthorne Borough Commander, said: "The behaviours exhibited by Smith are unacceptable and create fear in our community. "A CBO relies on the public reporting breaches to us and I would like to thank the individual who promptly called 999 when Smith presented a significant threat to safety. "I hope this outcome reassures residents that we will respond promptly and robustly when offences are disclosed." For more information, please visit our website. | ||
